A technique I pioneered 2020. At the time I'd been a full time leather worker for over a decade and I was expanding into a new medium. I was hoping that my work with cyanotypes would influence my leather work. It took me a year to figure out how to combine the two directly. My first successful image is the one with a small oak leaf. I have been refining the process ever since. Vegetable tanned leather will darken over time. The translucent cyanotype image over top will interact with the tannin in the leather. These are living pieces that will change tone, mood, and color as the leather patinas and the cyanotype chemistry responds.
