Leather Vessels 2023 - Present
Created out of a desire to have a larger and more straight forward canvas to showcase the dye work I had been developing at Wright & Rede. The open simple shapes allow me to highlight the subtle nuance created when I hand dye leather. Dye is left to drip and pool, or slowly built up by laying light layers over each other. The vessels themselves are created through a wet forming process. The dyed leather is soaked in water and then either pressed into a wooden mold (wet molding) or stretched and tacked onto a wooden form (lasting). Once the leather is dry it will retain the shape it was dried in.
